Sacroiliac Joint

The sacroiliac joint connects the hip bones (ilium) to the sacrum, the triangular bone between the lumbar spine and the tailbone (coccyx). The primary function of the sacroiliac joints is to absorb shock between the upper body and the lower extremities.

SI Joint Dysfunction

Dysfunction in the sacroiliac joint, also called the SI joint, can sometimes cause lower back and/or leg pain. Leg pain from sacroiliac joint dysfunction can be particularly difficult to differentiate from radiating leg pain caused by a lumbar disc herniation (sciatica) as they can feel quite similar.

Spinal discs play a crucial role in the lower back, serving as shock absorbers between the vertebrae, supporting the upper body, and allowing a wide range of movement in all directions.

If a disc herniates and leaks some of its inner material, though, the disc can quickly go from easing daily life to aggravating a nerve, triggering back pain and possibly pain and nerve symptoms down the leg. This could be lumbar disc herniation.

What is the Sacrix Technique?

The Sacrix technique is a safe direct percutaneous procedure allowing for faster recovery and same day treatment. The lateral-oblique approach is indicated for the treatment of sacroiliitis and sacroiliac joint disruption. This allows for direct compression and fusion of the sacroiliac joint using two lag screws.
